Justice shouldn’t cost more than a paycheck. In Washington, DC, the average cost of an attorney is $500 an hour. For many residents, that single hour costs more than a week’s income. Combined with rising costs for rent, childcare, groceries, and other necessities, too many low-income residents are forced to face legal problems alone.
That is where Rising for Justice steps in. We provide free legal and social work services to more than 6,200 DC residents each year. We listen first, respond with care, and advocate for our neighbors with compassion and respect.

Increase Your Impact at Work

Give Stock & Appreciated Securities

To begin the transfer process, contact development@risingforjustice.org for Rising for Justice’s brokerage information. You will generally need the name of the security and the number of shares you wish to donate.
Give From Your IRA
If you are age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a qualified charitable distribution directly from your IRA. A qualified charitable distribution can support Rising for Justice without being included in your taxable income and may count toward your required minimum distribution, if one applies.

Cy Pres awards allow undistributed funds from class action settlements to support nonprofit organizations whose work furthers the interests of class members. Recommending Rising for Justice as a Cy Pres recipient can scale our legal advocacy and social work services to low-income DC residents.
Subject to court approval, awards may support our work broadly or be designated for a specific practice area, including housing justice, criminal record sealing, or due process in civil protection order cases.
